Why Does Ninja Take a Blue Bolt Over a Gold Bolt

There are 28 Gold Bolts in the PS4 version of Ratchet & Clank. Finding all of their locations unlocks the Ultimate Explorer trophy, many options in the Extras menu such as Cheats and Appearance Options, and lets you access more hangars in the Insomniac Museum. Highlighting a planet on the Galactic Map will reveal how many Gold Bolts in that level you've collected.

Some can only be reached with certain Gadgets. Because of this, you may want to beat the game first and then go back to get all remaining Gold Bolts. All the Gadgets you'll need are mandatorily picked up to progress the story, but you will need the O2 Mask in Pokitaru's Scenic Sewers for two of them. Getting the O2 Mask itself requires all the other Gadgets, so if you have the O2 Mask you're ready to go!

If you get extra stuck, head to Kalebo III and get to the end of the Grind Rail route to collect the Map-o-Matic, a gadget that shows you the locations of Gold Bolts (as well as other collectibles) on the Map.

Click on an image to enlarge it if you need to. Some Gold Bolts also require using the Trespasser, the solutions to which can be found here.

Veldin

Requires Magneboots from Nebula G34
To the right of Grimroth's Garage will be a Magnestrip, alognside the path to the Galactic Ranger Tryouts. Walk up it to the top to find the Gold Bolt, as well as some crates.

Kerwan

This one can be found in the Grav-Train Station. After coming up the stairs into the station, turn right and use your Helipack's High Jump to get to the top of some steel crates (one of them will have two white arrows pointing up). When at the top, Stretch Jump across to the top of a wall of more steel crates, then hop down to find the Gold Bolt right in front of you. You can also get a fun easter egg if you loiter in front of the Qwark statue here!

If you already hopped onto the train with the bomb on it, or otherwise completed that Mission, you can return here by taking the Grav-Train parked near your Star Jumper outside the Hall of Heroes.

This Gold Bolt is in Captain Qwark's Fitness course. Simply make your way to the third island to claim your reward! Good luck!

Aridia

This one is located in Sandshark Valley where you help Skidd out. From the starting area, keep an eye on the right-hand wall for a grate that has the Gold Bolt behind it. Keep following the wall around to an area where a Sandshark spawner was, and you should find a part of the wall with holes you can see through. Use an explosive weapon like the Fusion Grenade to blown down the wall, then go through the tunnel to get the Gold Bolt.

This Gold Bolt is located in the green room where you pick up the Hydrodisplacer. Drain the pool first and hop down to the platform with the Bolt Crank. Jump into the remaining water and dive down to the Gold Bolt, precariously located in the middle of a large spinning fan.

Requires Magneboots from Nebula G34 and Thrusterpack from Pokitaru
The start of this one is located at the campsite for Skidd's Agent, which you can return to via a Teleporter near your Star Jumper. Take the Magnestrip up the wall behind his tent and use the Thrusterbolt to move the cranes. Use your Swingshot to swing across to the penninsula, then head left to find the Gold Bolt sitting in the bed of a truck (you'll have to clear out a lot of Sandsharks along the way). There's a teleporter nearby that will take you back to your ship.

Rilgar

This Gold Bolt can be found in the Containment area, otherwise known as the red maze at the end of the Hoverboard route. It's located in the only part of the maze that cannot have its walls lowered from the outside. To get in, head to the exit of this area and look for a tall advertising board near the maze. High Jump up to the top of it, then precariously walk along the top of the maze walls so that you can jump down into the room with the Gold Bolt. There'll be a button in this room to disable the forcefields.

This one is located on the Hoverboard course. On the inside of the second turn is a ramp that leads to an upper area. Keep on this upper path and you'll find the Gold Bolt inside a boost ring just around turn three.

Requires O2 Mask from Pokitaru
This one is located in the rising water section of the Blackwater Sewers, and while it is possible to get during the first visit, unless you're skilled enough you'll need to come back with the O2 Mask from Pokitaru's own sewers. From your ship, take the Taxi back up to the Blackwater Markets where the RYNO Dealer is and take the elevator back down to the sewers. Swim back nearly all the way back to the start until you get to the area in the picture above. Look for a tunnel in the lowest area and swim up it to find a room with crates and the Gold Bolt!

Nebula G34

This Gold Bolt is located in the pale circular room with the Swarmer cages, shortly before the Snagglebeast arena. When coming in, head to the right-hand side of the room and High Jump to the upper level. One of the cells here will actually lead to a small room, with Swarmers, crates, and the Gold Bolt.

Gaspar

Requires Jetpack later in level
This one is located behind your ship, but to access it you need to start near the area where you picked up the Grindboots; there's a forcefield bubble blocking it from the ship side. Use your Jetpack to fly up to a platform at the bottom of a Magnestrip that winds it way up a flaming smokestack. Walk along it and turn the Bolt Crank, then make your way in (you can skip the remaining obstacles simply by jumping off and Gliding down). Defeat all the enemies in the tunnel, then activate the Tri-Pads at the end to lower the forcefields. Take the elevator up and follow the path to your left to find the Gold Bolt!

Requires Jetpack later in level
This Gold Bolt is located in the Docking Bay area in the south-west part of the map, near the Blag Depot, and is guarded by Warbots, Blarg turrets and a Dropship. It is located at the platform closest to the lava and is behind a forcefield bubble, but you can disable it by hitting the three Tri-Pad buttons.

This Gold Bolt is found in the North-Eastern area of Telepathopus Fields, just North of where the RYNO Holocard for this level is located. You'll be able to find a low mettalic platform with some Blarg, a turret, a refueling station, and a circular hole in the middle. Inside the hole is the tip of a small volcano. The Gold Bolt will be sitting inside, although you should be careful of when the Volcano erupts.

In the Western area of Telepathopus Fields, there's a strip of land located above and between two Telepathopus traps, nestled between the cliff. The Gold Bolt can be found here.

Batalia

This Gold Bolt is found rather early in the level, in the area where Cora is/was fighting Warbots. The large building on the left-hand side will have a Trespasser terminal for a RYNO Holocard, but you can also use the walls to the sides of it as jump slots. Do so and you'll find the Gold Bolt sitting on the roof!

This one is found just after the first bridge you extend with a Bolt Crank. Instead of going down the ice slide on the left, head up the clifflets to the right. Stretch Jump across the gap and follow the path until you encounter the Gold Bolt.

This Gold Bolt is located amongst the ramparts of Fort Krontos, the fortress where the Starwatch Defence Cannon is located. To the left of the Bolt Crank that opens the door to Starwatch, there is a pile of crates stacked like a staircase. You can use these to climb up onto the ramparts, and if you head left you'll be able to find the Gold Bolt.

If you accidentally destroyed the crate stack, it will respawn if you come back to the planet. Another method is to use the columns on each side of the nearby doorway in the wall; you can High Jump to the top of them and climb up that way.

Pokitaru

This Gold Bolt can be acquired immediately after arriving. From Ratchet's ship, look out and spot the small rocky island in the middle of the area with two palm trees on it. Swim out to the right of it and spot an underwater arch going over a shallow trench. Follow this trench forwards to spot the Gold Bolt underneath another arch inside a wooden Space Pirate's chest. Depending on your skill you may want to wait until you pick up the O2 Mask in the Scenic Sewers later in the level.

This one can be picked up whilst escorting Felton Razz through the resort. Just before hopping onto the second skiff, look just past it to the south to see a small island with high cliffs. Swim out to it, sticking close to land so that you don't get eaten by Sharkigators, and start by climbing up its east side and working your way up counter-clockwise. The Gold Bolt is waiting for you at the top.

This Gold Bolt is the reward for completing the optional Mission called Find a way to the top of the waterfall. To start, stand on the skiff waiting at the starting area, then jump into the water. Follow the bottom of the cliff on your left until you find a cave entrance half-blocked by a wall of steel and TNT crates. Head through the cave to begin the path. At the end you'll face off against a fourth Telepathopus, which will drop a Gold Bolt after you kill it.

Quartu

This Gold Bolt is found in the Clank section. If you miss it, you can quickly return here by taking a pipe located to the left of the door in to get to the end of the course, as opposed to the one on the right that takes you to the beginning as you had to in the story. This left-hand pipe is available immediately after first clearing the Clank section.

When you enter the final room where Zed locks himself inside a crate, turn left and you'll spot an elevated grate with the Gold Bolt inside. To get there, put a Springbot at the base of the elevated section with a Gadgebot up top, then use a Bridgebot to cross the gap underneath the grate, before putting a Springbot on the end of the Bridgebot. Lastly, grab a bomb from the previous room and jump up the second Springbot to destroy the grate, giving you access to the Gold Bolt!

advertisement

This one is found inside the Warbot production line where you use the Jetpack. High up in the South-East corner of the room, you can find a door with Trespasser puzzle. Complete it to open the door to a Bolt Crank, which will open the blast doors into the second area Clank escaped to early in the game. Directly across the way will be the Gold Bolt.

This Gold Bolt is also located in the Warbot production line. Head to the Western side of the room to find a doorway to a small room (you'll know it's the correct one if it doesn't have a Vendor in it). Smack the button to lower a forcefield inside the center column, then fly into the small tunnel to find the Gold Bolt inside.

Deplanetizer (First Visit)

This one is found when you reach Drek's office, the open room lined with planet models on the walls. Stand on the Trespasser pad and look up on the right-hand wall to find a button. Shoot it with a weapon and a ladder will drop down. Climb up it and hop across the platforms to find the Gold Bolt. This Gold Bolt is also accessible on your second visit, and even if you got it on the first visit you may want to get to its location again, as there will be crates on the final platform.

Kalebo III

advertisement

This Gold Bolt is found in the area where the Thrusterbolt is. After using it to spin the room around, you'll notice the Gold Bolt on your right as you leave. To get there, use the elevator and ride it up, then turn around to spot the ledge behind you on your left. There are three ways of getting there: shimmying along the grey pipe on the wall, Stretch Jumping, or a double jump with a Glide. You'll be able to find the Gold Bolt in that area. Be very careful not to take the Grind Rail whilst doing this, as you cannot backtrack after using it, and you'll need to leave the level and come back to reset the Thrusterbolt room.

This Gold Bolt is found on the Hoverboard track. After the exit to the first shortcut, there will be a large ramp, to the right of which will be a thin portion of track you can jump to. You will need to be boosting and holding the X button for as long as possible in order to make this jump. Once you do, travel along it and jump off the ramp at the end to cross over the normal route and into a final tunnel that will now have its forcefield deactivated. At the end of this tunnel will be the Gold Bolt.

The location of this Gold Bolt is on the optional Grind Rail route that leads to the Map-o-Matic room. Along the way you will need to smack four buttons with your Wrench, two of which are on an optional loop part-way through the course. Each button has a set of four lights on them to help you keep track of your progress. Once you hit all the buttons, a forcefield will be disabled just in front of the fourth button, giving you access to a second optional loop of the course that will have a Gold Bolt at the end.

Deplanetizer (Second Visit)

advertisement

The final Gold Bolt of the game is located in the room with the two golden Drek statues. When you enter the room, turn around to your right to find two rectangular crates with blue lights on them. Jump up to the top of the first one and climb the ladder, then cross over the two platforms to the Gold Bolt!
